More nimble than its Roboraptor predecessor, WowWee's Roboreptile represents the next step in dinosaur-robot evolution. Although it's a little hazy exactly which dinosaur it's modeled after (looks kind of like an Plesiosaurus-dog hybrid), what the Roboreptile lacks in clear taxonomy it makes up for in speed and… um, "ferocity." You can control the toothy robot directly from the remote control, but it's more fun the let the little guy (2¼ feet long) roam around, relying on its infrared sensors to guide it. Set loose on the kitchen floor, Roboreptile will run speedily along on all fours, avoiding obstacles, until it encounters a potential threat (Fido, perhaps), whereupon it'll switch to biped mode to "attack." Yeah, we'll see how that goes. Checking out Roboreptile in action yesterday, we thought it was certainly faster and more nimble than Roboraptor, though it was also somewhat smaller. Which one you prefer probably comes down to whether you were more into Jurassic Park's T-Rex or the Velociraptors. In any case, WowWee's dinobot family should appease our carnosaur desires, at least until competitor Ugobe gets into the game. Roboreptile hatches this fall for $120.
