Remember when the Sony Walkman was the be-all, end-all of portable audio? Those were halcyon days for Sony, before the iPod and widespread digital copying screwed up its market dominance. Now Sony's looking to reclaim some of its lost glory with this new NW-A1200 Walkman, an 8-GB MP3 player that wants so badly to be in your pocket. Not much in the way of fancy features, other than, you know, music playback, but that's really all it needs to do. Curiously, it's available in only two colors, and those colors are pink and violet. Not sure what's going on there, but perhaps the black version that's available in Japan is on its way here. At $200, its very reasonably priced considering the gigabytes you get (the 2-GB iPod nano sells for the same price), but time will tell if a straightforward, cheap MP3 player can make a dent in Apple's supremacy.
