

With its PlayStation 3 game console set to hit store shelves this December, Sony stopped production of the PSone, the miniaturized version of the original PlayStation console. The PSone first went on sale in September 2000, and PSone games are compatible with both the PS2 and the upcoming PS3.… Once-popular Internet portal Lycos launched an Internet phone service today, Lycos Phone. The new service offers free calls from PC to PC, just like rival Skype, although Lycos has the added perk of granting the user a U.S. phone number so the PC can accept incoming calls from any phone. Some multimedia features, such as video calling and Web TV, are tied to the service.… Cablevision revealed plans to roll out a digital video recording (DVR) service, which would let Cablevision subscribers save shows at a central location — as opposed to recording them directly to their physical DVR boxes, which is the norm. Each subscriber will have 80 hours of capacity for recording programs and will still control the service via cable-box remote control. The company says it will save money by not having to fix cable-box hard disks, so the service will cost less than the approximately $10 monthly charge for using a cable-box DVR.
