


The video game wars will heat up this year, but not until November. Sony's PlayStation 3 will launch simultaneously in Japan, North America, and Europe for the holiday season, with an estimated 6 million units to be shipped by next March. Issues over finalizing the copy protection of Blu-ray Disc (the PS3 will have a Blu-ray drive) caused the delay from the original springtime release date.
"What format war?" might be the question now that LG plans to deliver a dual-format HD DVD and Blu-ray player. The player, which could be available as early as this fall, may help bridge the gap between the two competing high-definition disc formats.
German automaker BMW intends to start production of a hydrogen-powered car. The 7-Series executive cars will be able to switch between standard gasoline and hydrogen when it debuts within the next two years, while fully hydrogen-fuelled vehicles, which emit only water vapor, would make their debut from the premium automaker by 2010.
