Soon the expression "fill 'er up, Mac" will take on a whole new meaning. Taiwanese manufacturer Antig has demonstrated a production-ready version of its laptop fuel cell, which it claims will be hitting store shelves in early 2007. The high-tech power source will plug into the media bay found on many laptops, providing up to nine hours of extra power on a single fillup of methanol. Imagine: no more squatting next to an unoccupied outlet near Gate 23 during that two-hour layover in Atlanta. According to the BBC, the main sticking point that's been holding back this technology is a ban prohibiting flammable liquids in your carry-on bags. A recent change in the guidelines from some international aviation overseers, however, gives fuel cells the green light starting in January '07, prompting manufacturers like Antig to ramp up their production and distribution schedules.
