Opera Mini promises better phone browsing

operaminipic.jpgI haven't been this excited about Norway since I had my first Fiskeboller. Norwegian browser developer Opera Software has introduced a new version of its mobile-phone browser, Opera Mini, which anyone can download and install as long as your cell phone is Java-enabled. The browser reformats Web pages so they're more suited to surfing on a handheld. Opera's hoping Mini will drastically expand their reach, but can the company find success in the mobile-browser market, or will they find a fate closer to authorities chasing Munch's "The Scream?" After more than 10 years in the desktop browser market, Opera still has only a 1% share of the market. Are consumers ready to jump off the proverbial fjord and embrace Norwegian technology? Only time will tell, but we're sure Lance Armstrong (a native Norwegian) will be first to click over to mini.opera.com for his free Opera Mini download. You can also get it by sending an SMS text message with OPERA to 46847, but that will cost you $2.99.
