In the last couple of years, Apple's streamlined the formula for portables: go small, go white, or go home. When Nintendo unveiled its Nintendo DS Lite handheld, the company gave its carefully considered reply: Hear you loud and clear. The DS Lite is one-third smaller than the original Nintendo DS, which debuted in late 2004. On-the-go gamers liked its interface, although the clamshell design was criticized and later shown up by Sony's wildly successful PSP when every kid on every subway in the universe somehow got his hands on one last spring. The DS Lite still flips open, but sports straighter lines and will also have brighter touchscreens. At least that's what it looks like as of today the one shown here is said to be a design mockup. The real deal is scheduled to hit Japan's stores in March for about $150, with models coming to the rest of the world shortly thereafter. We'll try to keep ourselves busy till then.
