Buried in an impressively doublespoken report (I mean, "bimodal consumer types"? "Core competencies"? Come on...) on the future of the TV industry, IBM appears to strongly encourage TV networks to make their shows easily copyable to portable players. The summary of "The End of TV as We Know It: A Future Industry Perspective" bangs out six recommendations for TV networks (full disclosure: this site is operated by SCI FI, owned by NBC Universal), and No. 4, "Mobilize," advises networks to "create seamless content mobility for users that require on-the-go experiences." Well, Lost is available on iTunes, and you can download CSI from Google, but we hope the major players will heed IBM's warnings and take a few more steps toward "seamless." Like maybe putting pressure on Apple to make its video iPod a little more accepting of certain file types, or making Google Video compatible with Macs. And while we're at it Fox, it's time to get in on this "downloading" thing. The iPods of 24 fans have been suffering long enough.
