Your browser's Google toolbar is a handy spot for quick Web searches or blocking pop-up windows, but as of yesterday you can use it to send text messages, too. The new toolbar (Version 4, for those scoring at home) is now ready for download as long as you have IE6 (one for Firefox is in the works), although Google's site says you'll be automatically upgraded if you're using an older version. PC Mag gave it 4½ out of five stars, and some of the new features sound pretty cool, especially the ability to create custom search buttons for any site that has a Search field. Which means you won't have to even surf over to eBay, Pricegrabber, or CNN to bang out a search on the fly. You can also set up your own Web-based bookmarks, making sure you never lose your favorites when you log on from a cyber café.
